It was a sad week with the passing of my wife’s Aunt unexpectedly with a heart attack/stroke. She was my favorite Aunt because she always welcomed me in China and always wanted us to visit her to eat at her home. Her home has recently been demolished to make way for a high speed train station. During our last visit in China her home and village was scheduled to be demolished and she talked about how difficult it would be to live in an apartment. She was in her sixties and lived in this home and village most of her life and she was a farmer for the town. She knew it was going to be a difficult transition and I hoped it was not a cause of her passing. Because I have read and heard from friends that after people retire from work or their lifestyle many experience strokes, heart attacks, and health issues. She was in great shape during our last visit and always spunky with energy. She always drink Baijui (rice whiskey) with me during our meals. I loved visiting her home for lunch or dinner because she always had the freshest vegetables and rice which she actually farmed herself. During my travels I always try to pick the best item during a meal and during one visit to her house I was amazed at the rice it was so fresh and cooked perfectly. I told my wife the rice was the best I ever had and she said because she farmed it and the method she used. They do not use a rice cooker which most do in China now but she still cooked it in the wok with the wood burning fuel. It was amazing to pick out rice from the great meal that day. She was a great person and enjoyed seeing her every time we visit China. It has been a sad week communicating back and forth in China but at least she did not suffer. The family made a make shift tent structure at her old home site to honor her ashes and a place for the grieving family which I am a part of. She always had a smile on her face and we were generally happy to see each other. May she rest in peace.

This motorized suitcase would definitely work in China but not the US, see link below. It is another example of Chinese creative side. During my travels to the in-laws village with many farmers and builders they use what is available and create cool things and do not waste anything. Check this photo out of a plastic bottle being used for something other than trash. Every country needs everyone to think and create innovative products. https://autos.yahoo.com/blogs/motoramic/chinese-farmer-turns-suitcases-into-ingenious-electric-scooter-213419027.html |
