This is a great article reviewing the process to board airplanes. Each system has it pros and cons but most systems miss the point of educating the traveler. It takes 2 to board the airline by this I mean you need the process to board the airplane and travelers need to take ownership and should learn the boarding process or etiquette. It is just like the TSA security lines and if you want to get through fast look for savvy travelers or business travelers who take off all the necessary items and or prepare before walking through the scanners. Take off all your metal like watches, belts, coins, jackets, and any other items you needed to take off the last time you went through the TSA security. It is amazing how many people do not remember or just need someone to remind them that you need to take off your shoes and belt every time. This should be the same for boarding the airplane. Carry-on bags are the most cause of slowing the boarding process in my observations as well. Every flight I am on there are several travelers with huge carry-ons which barely fit into the overhead bins. First they hit everyone walking down the aisle, and then they are slow because the suitcase is over sized and heavy, then they tried to reorganize the overhead bins to fit their suitcase holding up the line. Then they need assistance to pick up the suitcase because it is too heavy then they need to force it in and this holds up boarding. In the end the perfect process will not work until the traveler takes ownership and do their part to increase the boarding process, every little bit helps.
What if they charged more for carry-ons and less for checked luggage?
