The attached article describes some tricks to get the best coach seats. http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/upgrade-your-life/new-trick-to-get-the-best-seat-in-coach-145117455.html?vp=1 . I totally agree to use Seatguru.com and reserve your seats as soon as you book your flights. Another trick with seatguru.com is that it does not always updates with the latest versions, for example, Air China on seatguru.com does not have the new 777-300ER but when you book your flight the aircraft model is usually display so just search on the internet for the seat map. Also there may be several versions of the same type of aircrafts with slightly different seat maps, so you can use the seatguru.com by flight number and or check the website from the airline for your specific route for the aircraft model to find the seat layout. We will print copies of available aircraft as well and if we get our seats changed we will review and request other options if they put us in bad seats. In coach watch out for the power port seats, which I thought it had power options to power my devices but it is the power box underneath the seat in front of you therefore you will have less foot room. I know this first hand for the Air China flights with the 777-300ER from LAX to Beijing the middle row of seats the left seat has this box and middle and right side does not. The best bet is do your research before booking your flight and when you finally book definitely reserve your seats and many international airlines allow you to reserve your seats but not always on third party sites, like Travelocity, expedia etc… Since we travel to China each year it is important to reserve the best seat as possible for the long flight.
