I got scammed in China from a cute little girl and I thought she was being nice. My wife and I were having lunch at a restaurant and we sat near the large window so I could people watch in China as we ate. A cute little girl came up to the window outside smiled, waved and started to dance for me. I encourage it by waving and watching her dance. My wife started to laugh at me and said I was getting scammed and the little girl was begging and she wanted money. I said no way; she was being nice to a foreigner. My smart wife got our left overs to go and got the left over change from our bill handy. As we left the restaurant sure enough the little girl was waiting for us with her hand out and wanted money for the entertainment, I got scammed. My wife gave her the leftover food and a small amount of change and told her to move on in mandarin. Sure enough the little girl took the items and ran across the street where her mother was waiting for her. After I got scammed I read that this is a typically trick mother’s use with their little girls to beg for money. I thought I was a smart traveler but I fell for it but learned my lesson. I do not like to encourage begging with locals to foreigners, so I try to avoid giving money to beggars.
