I think this is a good article about cultural differences when traveling. I have experienced these issues firsthand with my in-laws from China. They came over to visit us in Las Vegas for a year back in 2010. It was actually their first flight and what an introduction to flying a 12 hour flight from China to US. I had to remind my wife to tell her father not to spit and throw trash anywhere like they do in China. It is not right or wrong but it is a cultural difference and as they were visitors they should learn our cultural. In China it is perfectly OK to spit anywhere, for example, I was sitting in a hotel lounge area and a curious Chinese guy sat next to me and just spit on the floor right next to me in the hotel, wow was a culture shock for me. Another example, my wife will throw trash anywhere in China but they have cleaning crews to clean up during the early morning hours which is good because the older Chinese get employed to work. But she had to learn not to do this in the US.
